Opticomm realises a Smart City vision at Darling Square

19 June 2019 – Opticomm has deployed a superfast Fibre-to-the-Premises network at Darling Square which enables the realisation of a Smart City vision for the precinct.

Located on the site of the former Sydney Entertainment Centre, Darling Square is a vibrant mixed-use precinct with over 3,000 residents, 36 retail premises, commercial premises as well as the iconic Darling Exchange, which features a library operated by the City of Sydney.  The residential, retail and commercial buildings are interconnected via walkable public realm open space.

Jonathan Emery, Managing Director, Urban Regeneration, Lendlease said: “People clearly recognise the value of owning and living in such a fantastic location near the CBD. They are also buying into the new Australian dream of inner city living where everything is on your doorstep. At Darling Square we’re providing great public spaces and hand selecting the best of artisan bakers, baristas, restaurants and homeware designers, to create a welcoming new community for residents to enjoy”.

Across Darling Square, the Opticomm network provides superfast Telecommunications services to all buildings precinct-wide. In addition, the Opticomm network provides Free-to-Air Television and foxtel™, as well as supporting building services applications such as intercom systems and building management systems and residential Wi-Fi hot-spots.

Paul Cross, CEO of Opticomm said “Opticomm is proud to be in integral part of the success of the Darling Square redevelopment by Lendlease. The project is an outstanding example of how technology and innovative design can combine to produce a liveable Smart City, where people can live, work and play while feeling safe and connected.”

In the public realm at Darling Square, Opticomm is deploying connectivity to Wireless Access Points located on Smart Poles and buildings to deliver free public access Wi-Fi for residents and visitors. The applications supported on the Opticomm network enable safety and placemaking and precinct activation by providing big data information about how the public realm is being utilised during major events such as the Vivid festival as well as people movements around the clock as Sydney becomes a 24-hour open city.
