Opticomm has been connecting communities, business and local government throughout Greater Springfield in Queensland for over a decade, and has recently announced the successful deployment of its fully redundant backhaul connection from the NEXTDC Data Centre in the Brisbane CBD to the Opticomm Point-Of-Interconnect (POI) within the Polaris data centre of this master-planned community.
The connection features two physically diverse 20Gbs superfast optical fibre connections. From Polaris, the Opticomm access network is then distributed throughout Greater Springfield with links to other major developments in the district.
Located south-east of the regional city of Ipswich in Queensland, Greater Springfield is the largest master-planned community in Australia and is the brainchild of entrepreneur and businessman Maha Sinnathamby, who acquired the initial parcel of land in 1992.
The vision for the new city was for a community with easy access to employment, health, education, and information technology.
There has been significant public and private investment in infrastructure including a heavy rail connection and the establishment of the Polaris Data Centre, which is owned by Springfield City Group, a company chaired by Sinnathamby.
Utilising the Polaris Data Centre as a regional data hub, Opticomm provides access to superfast fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) connectivity to homes, business and government offices throughout the district.
In addition to providing FTTP connections to residential dwellings, Opticomm also provides business grade services to commercial and government. Fibre is also leased to Channel 9, GE and the Ipswich City Council for public realm CCTV cameras and connection of public facilities.
