There are steps both you and Opticomm will need to take1. Here’s a more detailed overview of the process to get connected to the FTTP network and what will happen at each stage.

Building the network

Opticomm: We’re building the FTTP network so you can enjoy superfast enhanced services via your chosen service provider. You may see work being carried out around the community. We’re working with the relevant councils and/or governing bodies and land access authorities during this time to ensure access permission to council and public lands is done in an appropriate manner, including being aware of any cultural and heritage considerations.

You: Register your contact details, so we can contact you before commencing any works at your address.

If you do not register your details with us, we will be unable to contact you to book your lead-in and connection.

Installing your fibre – exterior works

Opticomm: We will carry out the lead-in2 works to run fibre from the property boundary to the outside of your home. The fibre will then be connected to a small box, called a Premises Connection Device (PCD), which will be installed on the outside of your home.

At least 12 business days before work is due to be carried out at your address, we will notify you of your appointment, and complete and send you the required documentation including a LIFID notice, which outlines the type of work that will be performed at your property.

You: Ensure the owner or authorised representative, who is 18 years or older, is at home during the lead-in appointment. If you’re renting, your landlord must provide permission for the works to be carried out.

On the day of your initial installation appointment, the technician will discuss the installation plan, the lead-in work and the proposed lead-in route and PCD location at your home. These details will be noted on an agreement by the technician and you will be asked to sign this agreement.

After installation

Connecting you – internal works

Once we’ve built the fibre outside your home, we’ll contact you at least 12 business days in advance to schedule your connection appointment.  

Opticomm: Our technician will connect the fibre from the PCD installed outside your home and connect it to another small box called the Network Termination Device (NTD) inside your home. Your internet provider-supplied modem will connect to this NTD.  

The NTD will be installed within two (2) metres of the PCD and close to, within one (1) metre of, a power point.  

You: You’ll need to ensure the owner or an authorised representative who is 18 years or older is at home during the connection appointment.

Ordering your internet service

You: To access the internet over the Opticomm network, you’ll need to place an order with your chosen service provider and choose a plan that suits your needs.

Your service provider may need to send you equipment such as a modem for your services to be active.

  1. These steps relate only to addresses which are currently scheduled for connection as part of the Connecting Victoria program and the Improved Broadband Infrastructure and Connectivity Project in Logan.
  2. The lead-in fibre will be installed in a narrow conduit (duct) placed in a narrow trench about 300mm deep. Opticomm will propose the most direct route from the relevant pit in the street to the nearest suitable PCD mounting location on the house.
